What is Breed Back?
A breed back contract establishes a co-ownership relationship between the new owner of the dog (Owner) and Doug Plemel of Desert Winds Kennel (Co-owner). Under terms of this co-ownership arrangement, the female dog will be breed once to a male selected by Doug Plemel of Desert Winds Kennel. Desert Winds Kennel is also assured the right to keep at no cost the "pick of the litter" as identified by Doug Plemel.
Additional Standard Terms and Conditions of a Breed Back Contract:
- A breeding is valid and satisfies the terms of the contract only if it results in a minimum of two live, healthy puppies that achieve a minimum age of 8 weeks old.
- Doug Plemel of Desert Winds Kennel reserves the exclusive right to select the stud dog for the breeding with the Owner responsible for any stud fees if applicable.
- The Owner of the dog will be responsible for any veterinary and support costs for care of the female before, during and after the pregnancy and birth of the litter.
- Desert Winds Kennel at the request of the Owner will whelp the litter, however, the Owner will be responsible for any expenses associated with the dog and litter including but not limited to veterinary care, feed and supplements.
- The time period for "whelping the litter" will begin approximately 2 weeks before the puppies are due and continue through a minimum of 8 weeks following the birth of the litter.
- Desert Winds Kennel will assist in the sale and placement of any other puppies resulting from the breeding at a cost of $200/puppy.
- Desert Winds Kennel reserves the right at its sole discretion to resell at anytime the pick of the litter. Any funds derived from this sale are exclusively reserved for Desert Winds Kennel.
- At no time may the Owner sell, give or bequeath the dog to another person or company without the express written permission of Desert Winds Kennel. Desert Winds Kennel reserves the right to reclaim the dog at no cost should this provision be broken.
-
If the Owner is unable or unwilling to continue in its capacity as Owner, the dog will be returned to Desert Winds Kennel at no cost and without reimbursement of any kind. Upon return of the dog to Desert Winds Kennel the original sales contract will be deemed null and void and Desert Winds Kennel will become the sole and exclusive owner of the dog.
Note: Each breed back contract is individually negotiated between the two parties (Owner and Co-owner) and may include additional special agreements and terms.
